Middle Eastern Meatballs & Grilled Halloumi

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp of za’atar
  • 3/4 tsp of cumin
  • 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
  • 2 tsp of salt
  • 1.5 lbs of ground beef or ground turkey
  • 2 tbs of chopped fresh mint
  • 1/2 large yellow onion minced
  • 1 egg lightly scrambled
  • 1 cup of taziki
  • 1.5 lbs of halloumi cheese (grilling cheese)

Let’s Cook:

Preheat the oven to 375.

In a small bowl mix together the first 4 ingredients. In a large bowl add the beef (or turkey), spice mix, fresh mint, onion, and egg until all the ingredients are evenly combined.

Line a two baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll the meatball mixture into approximately 1.5-inch sized meatballs and place them on the parchment-lined sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through.

While the meatballs are cooking, heat a large non-stick pan to medium-high heat. If you pan as lost it’s non-stick, spray it lightly with a non-stick spray. Watch the halloumi carefully. As soon as it begins to brown flip it, cool for one more minute and remove from heat. Allow the halloumi to cool and then cut the cheese into approximately 1.5-inch cubes.

To serve, pierce the meatball and the halloumi with a toothpick, top with taziki and garnish with chopped mint!
